Gaines Fellowship Program

    Good Morning,   I am writing to share an upcoming virtual interest session for the Gaines Fellowship Program. As a reminder, undergraduate students from all majors and academic colleges are encouraged to apply. Eligible candidates must have 2 years remaining at the University beginning in fall of 2022 to complete the curriculum.    VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSION: Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 3:00pm via Zoom:  REGISTRATION  LINK   The benefits of this undergraduate program include:   Small, seminar-style courses with outstanding faculty, based on a humanities theme An individualized senior project to be conducted with a small faculty committee An opportunity to engage meaningfully and intellectually with a small cohort  Ongoing community engagement initiatives including discussions with community leaders, visits to local landmarks, dinners, trivia nights, and more Access to the Gaines Center facilities, including a student lounge Financial support for travel and research opportunities

Tombstone, Menu, or Menace - some poetic exploration and inspiration about genre.

  Consider the aforementioned.  Write about yourself or a someone you know very well.  Decide if you are going to write about them in context of your/their life's accomplishments, your/their practicality or your/their deviance.  Use one form from the previous  list of 50 forms  to enhance your writing.  Also incorporate  poetic devices . Remember each stanza is a room or scene, build something beautiful.  Think about our discussions of  "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"  to inspire your exploration.

  Where I'm From As Kentucky's 2015-2016 poet laureate, George Ella wants to collect a "Where I'm From" poem  from every county in Kentucky .  Kentucky’s ‘Where I’m From’: A Poetry of Place” is the central theme of a project that will touch all 120 of Kentucky’s counties.
